A quarter of London’s small businesses plan to register for a new .london domain name when they become available, new research has revealed.
A survey from London & Partners found that more than 200,000 businesses across the capital are planning to snap up a .london address when they become available on 29 April. London will be one of the first cities in the world to have its own domain name, which will be available alongside the more traditional suffixes such as .com and .co.uk.
Almost half of those surveyed said they want a .london web address because they’re proud to be a London business, while 41% said they think a local web address will help customers find them more easily.
Gordon Innes, chief executive of London & Partners, said “This is an incredible response from London’s small business community which sees .london as an opportunity to claim an exciting new web address that is uniquely associated with our city’s powerful brand”.
