News: Businesses’ websites & social strategies not fit for purpose

how to choose a domain nameMany businesses are still not using the web to its full potential, with many missing out on the benefits of online marketing and social media, according to a new report from Catalogues 4 Business’ (C4B).

The majority of companies featured in the report have an information website, but only half have the ability to sell online through an eCommerce site. Many are also risking missing out on considerable traffic by ignoring today’s top web trends. A staggering 39% of these sites were not designed to work on mobile devices, and the same amount were not focused on search engine optimisation (SEO).

The report also revealed a lack of awareness about tracking website performance. One in 10 companies do not know their web statistics, and a further 15% are unsure how to measure the effectiveness of their site.

Many companies are taking advantage of the low cost of online marketing, with 66% using email marketing, and 67% using social media. This is an improvement on last year’s report, which found just over half of businesses were using social media, but there are still many businesses missing out on the benefits.

Ian Simpson, managing director at C4B, commented “Nowadays social media and digital marketing has become such a wide trend and it makes it so shocking that some businesses still haven’t deployed it. You would currently expect all companies to have social media within their mix, and more importantly have a purpose and end goal in mind.”
