News: Crowdfunding could make Death Star a reality

Death StarWhen we reported back in October about the launch of Kickstarter in the UK, we were confident that it would become a new way for small businesses to fund their ideas. But it seems it’s not just small businesses making their passions a reality on the crowdfunding site.

After an unsuccessful petition to the White House, a Kickstarter project has been set up to fund the construction of a Death Star, a planet-sized weapon fictionalised in the Star Wars franchise.

The Kickstarter page asks for an initial £20,000,000 to draw up plans, with a final goal of £543,000,000,000,000,000 (that’s £543 quadrillion) to actually start construction of the Death Star.

Although the founder of the Kickstarter campaign has made it clear the project won’t actually go ahead, there has been no shortage of pledges. The project has raised £213,000 already, with 51 days to reach its target.

Those who have pledged won’t actually have to pay out unless the target is reached in time. If you want to donate to the cause, you can check out the Kickstarter page here.
