New research has revealed that freelancing is now the fastest growing sector of the labour market.
There has been a 45% increase in the number of independent professionals across Europe, according to the study commissioned by PCG. It is estimated that freelancers contribute £95billion to the economy every year.
The research comes as preparations are made for National Freelancers Day, which takes place next Thursday, 21st November. The event will celebrate freelancers all over the country, and is backed by high profile business names including Karren Brady and Nick Ferrari.
In the run-up to the event, London Mayor Boris Johnson showed his support in an open letter to freelancers. In the letter he said “Your contribution to the lifeblood of our economy is immense.”
The mayor’s letter went on to say “Whether you freelance, you are an entrepreneur or you run a small business three things you won’t be short of are ability, aptitude and agility.”
