News: Government Launches Scheme for Childcare Businesses

bub and mumThe government has launched a new scheme in the hopes of launching 6,000 new childcare start-ups.

The Childcare Business Grants Scheme is aimed at unemployed women, who can apply for grants of up to £500 to help start a new nursery or childminding business. The grant is designed to cover start-up costs such as insurance, training and equipment.

Applicants can also take advantage of free business mentoring and specially-tailored start-up advice.

Maria Miller, Minister for Women and Equalities, said: “Good quality, affordable and reliable childcare is key to more women being able to get into and stay in the workplace. The childcare industry is already a major employer of women, and this scheme will mean more opportunities for female entrepreneurs to start and run their own businesses.”
