A new survey has revealed that nearly half of small businesses are not satisfied with their current domain name. With hundreds of millions of websites online, many small businesses were unable to buy their first choice of domain name.
The survey, commissioned by .CO, found that 49% of small business owners tried more than one domain name before settling on their current one. A further 55% believe they have lost business by not having their first choice, and 52% would change their domain name given the opportunity.
In the next year, many more domain name suffixes with become available, giving small businesses more choice than the usual .com, .co.uk or .biz URLs. There will be much more flexibility, with names such as .london, .shop, and .movie expected to be on sale.
Lori Anne Wardi, co-founder and VP at .CO, said “it has never been more important for small business owners to understand and leverage the power of a good domain name. The right web address, built on a global, credible domain extension, can make it easy for people to find, remember and refer you customers – and to drive your business forward.”
