New small businesses are often slow to register a domain name for their new company, with 22% missing out on their preferred web address.
According to new research from names.co.uk, many wait months between registering their new company name with Companies House and registering their domain name. Up to 21% end up with a domain name which has nothing to do with their company name.
On the other end of the spectrum, 35% of small business owners register their preferred domain name before launching their company, with 25% setting up their website in advance.
After starting up, 84% of small businesses launch their website within three months, with an eager 12% doing so within a day. For 10% of companies, it takes a year or longer to get online!
Choosing a company or domain name is not something to be taken lightly. A quarter (25%) of small businesses surveyed said they would consider changing their name, given the chance. A further 10% admitted they don’t like their company name at all.
