The new report revealed 93% of respondents are ‘very’ or ‘quite’ happy with running their own business, and 70% said their main job satisfaction comes from being in charge of their own destiny, while 66% take pleasure from doing something they believe in.
More than half (56%) said they expect to grow in the remainder of the year. These positive insights echo the recent news that confidence is on the rise in small businesses.
Small business owners do acknowledge that their jobs can be difficult, with a fifth saying they would like to reduce their stress levels, and a third wishing for more time to take holidays. Almost half (46%) admitted they had not had any time off in the past year due to their business commitments.
Stacey Sterbenz, director for American Express Small Business Services UK, said “It is encouraging that despite the ongoing challenging economic environment, small business owners say they are happy at work. They know they have tough challenges ahead but appear to be gritting their teeth and focusing on the positives.”
