News: Shoppers Urged to ‘Use or Lose’ Small Local Businesses

Shoppers are being urged to buy goods from independent shops over the Christmas period, or risk losing small local businesses forever. The Federation of Small Business (FSB) is running a Keep Trade Local campaign, aimed to reverse the trend of decline on the High Street. It has called for cheaper parking, less domination by large supermarket chains, and now for shoppers to support their small local businesses.

FSB’s Chairman for Merseyside, West Cheshire and Wigan John Allan said “it is local independent traders who offer the best quality, choice and service and it is up to us to support them. The message to consumers in this region is to shop local this Christmas. The future of small shops is in our hands – we either use them or lose them.”

So this Christmas, when budgets are tight, do you find yourself lured in by supermarkets’ offers or are you supporting small local businesses? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
