News: Small Businesses Can Get a Share of £150m to Train Staff

Businesses are being encouraged to provide more training and apprenticeship schemes, as a new funding initiative is announced today.

The second round of the Employment Ownership pilot will enable businesses to access a share of the £150m fund to improve skills among staff. In the first round of funding, large companies such as Nissan, Whitbread and GE Aviation took a share of £70m to improve skills training for local suppliers and run apprenticeships to attract women into new industries.

This round of funding is suitable for companies of any size. Matthew Hancock, Skills Minister, said “I would encourage businesses – large and small – to be ambitious and innovative in their vision for how the fund can help them grow, from creating new apprenticeship programmes to setting up specialist training academies”.

Those wishing to apply must submit a proposal by  28 February 2013 and can download a prospectus here.
