New research has revealed that small businesses are unprepared for the security threats that come with the new technologies they are adopting.
The study by the Economist Intelligence Unit found that only 6% of small businesses see new technology as having a negative impact.
Only 20% said they see the risks associated with technologies such as cloud computing, social media and mobile internet as ‘a major threat’.
Less than half (46%) of UK small businesses have given their staff data security training, with only 28% reviewing their data security policies and processes.
This is all despite the government’s estimates that 87% of small and medium sized businesses in the UK suffered a cyber-breach in the past year.
