News: Small Businesses Plan to Take on 450,000 New Staff

A new study has revealed that small businesses in the UK are to create 450,000 new jobs in the next 12 months. The latest European ‘SME Capex Barometer’ report from GE Capital stated that these figures had increased by 20% since the start of the year, reflecting a big recruitment drive among small businesses.

Small UK businesses also said they plan to invest over £45.8bn in the next year, up 23% from the figures they gave in the last report.

Although these figures seem to reflect an increase in confidence among small businesses, the latest version of the report reveals confidence is actually down by 15% since the beginning of the year. Of all the businesses questioned, those with 2-9 employees were the least optimistic about the future.
