It seems the entrepreneurial spirit in Britain is on the rise, as a new survey has revealed more people are starting up businesses in their spare time.
The report from Freelancer.co.uk found a 34% increase in spare time businesses in the last 12 months. Respondents said they set up their own business because it’s now ‘easier than ever’, with 19% citing low online start-up costs, 18% mentioning cheaper technology skills, and 15% saying it’s now easy to sell products online.
Not only is it easier than ever to start a business from home, recent research also found it’s cheaper than ever, with the average cost standing at just £312.
Many start-up businesses are now avoiding hiring expensive office space as online tools make it easy to run a business from home. The survey found that 56% of spare time businesses were started in a bedroom, 29% in a kitchen, 12% in a home office or study, and a creative 9% started their business in their garden shed.
