News: Technology keeps small business owners working after hours

new technologySmall business owners are being overwhelmed by technology outside of working hours, according to new research.

The report from Hiscox reveals that 89% of entrepreneurs feel in control of technology in their business, but 38% said technology makes it difficult for them to ‘switch off’, leading them to work outside of normal hours.

The majority of respondents (61%) say they keep up to date with technology because they realise it’s important for their business. 59% of respondents said they plan to significantly invest in new technology, either to purchase new equipment or upgrade existing equipment.

Alan Thomas, small business insurance expert at Hiscox, says: “As SMEs seek to keep their business running at all times, the option to clock off at 5pm is fast diminishing and being ‘switched on’ is becoming a normal way of life.”
