A new report from Ofcom has revealed that UK consumers lead the way for online shopping, spending more than twice as much per head than other countries surveyed.
The annual International Communications Market Report featured statistics from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US.
According to the survey, UK consumers have a higher level of trust in the security of online retailers than their counterparts do.
Online spend has been on the rise, with a 16% increase in 2012. Consumers spent an average of £1,175 online last year, compared to £1,017 the year before.
The new figures highlight the importance of a functioning online store if small businesses are to capitalise on the growing popularity of online purchases.
