Small business website of the week revisited: The Opposition

Hair salons Leeds The Opposition Hairdressing

We’re revisiting The Opposition this week, a site which was previously featured back in July, to see how their site has affected their business over the last few months.

The Opposition salon has been established for more than 25 years, and in 2013 owner Carl Thompson decided it was finally time the salon got its own website.

When we asked why he had waited so long to create a website for his business, Carl said: “When running a business it is all too easy to concentrate on what‘s going on inside, without paying much attention as to how new clients will find you or how you are perceived externally”.

As with many small business owners, price was also an issue. Carl said: “ I had researched the market for website building and was somewhat amazed by the quotations provided by some companies and then the limitations that they set for editing, i.e. every time we would require a change there would be a charge. I must admit that for a long time this did put me off the idea of having our own website”.

Carl decided to create a website with bOnline using our easy DIY website. He said: “I noticed several companies advertising on TV about building your own website; however when I enquired about these almost all of them wanted to tie you into long and somewhat restrictive contracts. I researched further online and came across bOnline, the reviews were excellent so I tried the free build your site tools and found it remarkably quick and easy to produce something that looked really professional. I liked the pricing structure and the no long contract basis on which they operate, the customer service is superb and only a phone call away”.

Carl said he now realises the importance of a website for small businesses: “A website is essential for a business to present a professional profile and as a marketing tool; almost everyone looks online before they spend money on goods or services these days so without an online presence a salon would be at a significant disadvantage over its competitors that already have one”.

The Opposition’s new website has helped to attract more business. Carl said: “Clients find us far easier and by following the advice provided by bOnline for search engine optimisation our Google rankings have improved.”

“We have had some really nice comments from both new and existing clients about the site and how professional it looks and the ease in which you can navigate whilst on it.”
