New research by StartUp Britain has revealed that 499,148 new businesses have been set up in 2013, with the figure set to reach the half a million mark by the end of the year.
This already shows an increase on the 2012 figure of 484,224 and is 13% higher than the 2011 figure of 440,600, with a few weeks of the year still remaining.
The year on year increase reflects the growing confidence in the economy, with 56% of small business owners predicting economic growth in 2014 as we reported earlier this week.
Emma Jones, co-founder of StartUp Britain, said “These figures come directly from Companies House. We’ve been looking at these figures for three years since the campaign began and it’s clear the UK’s startup community is fit and healthy – and shows no sign of abating.”
