UK office workers crave more of a ‘buzzing’ atmosphere at work, according to a new report, with 72% of employees saying business leaders need to do more to reinvigorate their office culture.
Morgan Lovell’s Buzz Barometer report also found that small businesses offer a better working atmosphere than large companies, with 81% of respondents in agreement.
More than three quarters of workers said they feel tied to their desks for the majority of the day, with 81% saying being active would significantly improve the atmosphere. Laughter and conversation were also found to be important factors in creating a buzz.
Monica Parker, head of workplace strategy at Morgan Lovell, says “This research shows sedentary working habits and dull offices are draining UK businesses of much-needed energy. As a company grows and matures it is essential that leaders consider what they can do to reinvigorate the right kinds of social interaction at work and engage a demotivated workforce.”
