Google Adwords are paid ads that get your website and advert at the top of the search listings on Google. If you want your website and products to be at the top of searches, Adwords is the best way to come out on top, quickly and easily.
How it works is simple:
- People use keywords / search terms to find specific products and services online.
- Companies (like you) bid on keywords. When a customer searches for your keyword, your paid ad will appear above the organic search results on Google.

How can I get my ads to appear?
There are two ways to get your ads to appear, bidding higher and improving your quality score.
Each time your ad is clicked on, you’ll pay a certain amount. You can preset the price you’re willing to pay-per-click – which is called the cost-per-click (CPC).
Top Tip: You can also set an automatic bid amount in which Google will choose the bid amount for you while staying within your budget. This should give you the maximum number of clicks within your budget.
Google and Google Adwords look at the relevance of your ad and how useful the content is for people searching and clicking. They also look at other metrics to do with your ad, like how many clicks it has received (know as the click-through rate, CTR) and how relevant the landing page is.
For example, if you’re advertising a coffee machine for your home, your advert will appear when a user searches for ‘coffee machine’. Once the ad is clicked on, the visitor should be immediately directed to a page selling coffee machines. If they are directed to your generic home page, unfortunately, the ad won’t be shown very highly, because it isn’t specific enough.
The better your quality score, the better for your ads. Even if your maximum ad buds are less than that of a competitor, you could still appear above them if your quality score is better.
