The fact is, landlines are about to be switched off, which is making the switch to VoIP even more necessary. But choosing the right service for your small business can be a real headache (which is why we’re here to help!)

The concept of WiFi calling vs. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is becoming more relevant as more businesses move to hybrid and remote working. But what is the difference between the two?

Let’s take a look.

What is WiFi calling?

When you make a call using WiFi, the call is connected to a WiFi network instead of a phone service provider’s network.

WiFi calling is similar to using a mobile phone and is typically a popular feature provided by mobile service providers. It uses one number and offers similar features such as access to speakerphone, joint calls, etc. It can relieve any issues that might occur when a call is dependent on mobile coverage.

WiFi calling is also a quick-fix option that allows users to make free phone calls through WiFi, with no additional hardware or software.

What is VoIP?

The two communication technologies are similar. VoIP is actually the technology used to make WiFi calls, but is a stand-alone software that requires infrastructure. Just like WiFi calling, VoIP can make stable calls over any internet connection. VoIP calling however provides more flexibility than WiFi calling as it is able to make connections over a variety of devices. Users that utilise VoIP phone systems also have access to more features compared to standard WiFi calling.

WiFi or VoIP calling: Which is best?

Both options have many benefits. Choosing the right technology can fluctuate based on your preferences and lifestyle. WiFi calling is a great option for quick and personal usage. When it comes to your business, however, implementing VoIP technology offers more flexibility and options that are designed for your company and professional communication.
