Openreach Now Added Another 79 Areas To Its Stop Sell Programme

Openreach has revealed that an additional 79 exchange locations across the UK have been added to its stop sell programme. The locations cover more than 900,000 premises where traditional copper-based phone and broadband services are to be phased out, with the move set to encourage customers to move to digital services via a full fibre connection.

Meanwhile, Openreach is also giving telecom providers like Sky, BT, Vodafone and TalkTalk, which operate on its network, a year’s notice that it will stop selling legacy analogue products in areas where full fibre is available to the majority (over 75%) of premises in these new exchange locations.

The stop sell policy kicks in when 75% of premises connected to a specific exchange can access full fibre. It’s at this point that customers wanting to upgrade, switch or modify their broadband or phone service will need to sign up for a digital service delivered over Openreach’s new full fibre network.

So far, stop sell rules have been applied to 748 exchanges, covering over six million premises. In those areas, where full fibre is available to the majority of premises, new copper products are no longer being sold.

Openreach has also announced an extra 41 exchanges, covering 292,000 premises, are due to go live with the stop sell next month.
